COMMUNITY PARENTS PROJECT

Connecting new and experienced parents in Poplar, Limehouse and the Isle of Dogs to empower, inform and encourage.

A Community Parent is another local parent who has been there and done that, who volunteers their time to offer informal support and useful information to an expectant mother and/or father through pregnancy and the first 8-12 months of family life.

Pregnancy and birth are key periods of transition in an individual's life and can be the driver for making important choices and changes. This period is an ideal opportunity to offer effective support to foster a positive experience and help prevent future difficulties.

  • We share information on local services for pregnant women and new parents.
  • We offer practical and emotional support during pregnancy and as a new parent.
  • We do not judge, tell you what to do or take over!
  • We are there for you as you go through the tricky bits of becoming a parent and to share the good bits too!

If you are interested in receiving support, please                                                                        click here.

Community Parents volunteers are trained as Peer Supporters for first-time pregnant families. The volunteers are trained to Level 3 City & Guilds in "Work with Parents" then matched with families in early pregnancy. The peer support is an empowering relationship to strengthen core family support relationships, improve the birth and early years experience and help new families integrate fully into their community.

"I support the processes employed by this project at every level. It is a stunning example of innovation, co-production, and rigorous risk management given the area they operate in..
